1. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:
When the family sits down to tea, the cat puts in an appearance to get his share. He purrs noisily and rubs himself against the legs to the family members. If there is a guest at the table, the cat is particularly civil to him, because the guest is likely to have the best of what is offered. Sometimes, instead of giving him something to eat, the guest stoops down and strokes the cat, and says, "poor pussy! poor pussy!" The cat soon tries of that. To
The Times of India
Sub: Frequent price hike of necessary goods

Sir, Throughout the column of your esteemed daily I shall be highly obliged if you kindly permit to ventilate my opinion about the problem of frequent price hikes of necessary goods.

For me, who belongs to a  lower-middle-class family, earning only a few rupees a month, the increase in commodity prices is a problem for us. for example, when the price of potato was Rs 20 per kg, today it has to be bought for Rs 40 per kg. The oil price has increased by Rs 14 per liter. Again the price of gas has increased by about 70 rupees per cylinder. In this way, every vegetable is a sky-high price but our wages are the same as before. We common working people are in a lot of turmoil.

I therefore earnestly request you to take a lock on this problem and allow us to bring it publicly through your daily if the Government should take the necessary steps about the problem in our locality.

Yours Faithfully_____

Pollution of Environment
The environment is everything around us. The environment is very important for our healthy living. But nowadays, environmental pollution has taken a terrible form in the world. Bangladesh is also a serious victim of environmental pollution. The main causes of environmental pollution in our country are overpopulation, unplanned urbanization, deforestation, excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides, toxic fumes from vehicles, and untreated waste disposal from industrial factories. As a result, our country is moving towards a terrible disaster. Due to the increased population, people are using the elements of the environment in different ways to meet their needs. Various types of waste are generated, resulting in pollution of the air, water, and soil.

The most important element in the environment is air, and the air is constantly being polluted by humans. One of the causes of air pollution is exhaust fumes from factories. Another important element of the environment is water, which is also being polluted in various ways. Chemical fertilizers are being applied to the land to increase food production. Pesticides are being used. These, mixed with rain water, pollute ponds, canals, and river water in various ways. Chemicals and waste materials released from factories are polluting the water in rivers and canals.
